Our Projects and Goals

Routine Clean-up Events

We are constantly working to clean trash out of the creek. We have removed several tons of plastic bottles, glass, tires, styrofoam, and other garbage. Thanks to our local litter-bugs and eroding landfills we will likely never be done with this project.

Commissioning Boat Launches

We have been launching into the Kickapoo for years. We know better than most how much of a pain it can be. Thats why we are working closely with public and private entities to install easier access to the creek we love so much.

Water Gauging Stations

We want to create a fun, safe creek experience for anyone willing to seek it out. To do that we need to collect data on waterflow, dangerous obstacles, and other hazards that may be unsafe, and we need to make it public knowledge.

Friends of Kickapoo Creek is exploring ways to install gauging systems to let you know when and where the creek is safe to float.

Educating the Public

Each year we partner with Friends of Rocky Glen and Wildlife Prairie Park to put on the Kickapoo Creek Festival, a celebration of our watershed. Through games, presentations, and interactive events, we do our best to raise awareness and instill a sense of compassion for our local waterway.
